Feather's Charm presents...
Made for Tell Me A Story...
I'm actually excited about today's post. You see, I've been lacking in inspiration lately, since most of the time, the sort of posts I publish are informative, or like a diary to me, so I'm starting to lose my motivation to create a story or even a scene. What actually got me into writing blog posts was my passion to creatively write, and I used to love describing places, people and conversations, way back when!
So, when I opened my laptop to create a scene for this piece, I couldn't even think of anything as remotely magical or thrilling, as when I used to write for fun. So, I went back to my earlier works, the kind that looked and sounded "fanfiction-y". They were terrible, believe me, I should know, but they did get my creative juices flowing again. The only thing is, I'm still in that uninspiring place that writers go to, when they really can't think of a way to write (and yes, I do mean I'm in a writer's block).
However, after looking back at some of my old pieces, I realised, that they're just sitting there, without being used at all. It's a shame that I've not looked back at them in such a long time! So, why not publish some of them here. I highly doubt I'll use them any time soon, and hey, maybe you guys could do something with them!
That's why this post is an old screenplay piece that I thought up of a while back. I'd forgotten I'd made it, and when I was looking through these old pieces, I found it, and I have to say, I may do a follow-up piece, if I get the chance! Anyway, enjoy!
Confront The King
INT. THE GREAT HALL
King DORATHIS is sitting on his throne, waiting. The whole court is in attendance. Minutes pass by, and some of the courtiers start fidgeting. Suddenly the heavy doors open with a boom. King DORATHIS sits up. A young warrior, LIYA strides up to him, her expression is tense. She stops before the stairs that lead to the throne, holding up dead falcons.
You sent me to scout the mountains!
You sent me to watch, to keep distance,
and what do I find?
(She throws the dead carcasses
to DORATHIS' feet)
Balan's men killing my scouts! Explain!
Courtiers start whispering.
(Eyes shift from birds to LIYA)
We weren't certain they were on
our borders. Now we know.
That's it? That's your excuse!
(Points at him and voice threatening)
You are not worthy for the crown
that sits upon your head!
Such treasonous words!
The wench! How dare she!
(Turns to the court)
Insult me all you like, banish me for all I care,
but I will not serve under a ruler who cares little
for the people who made him.
LIYA turns back to DORATHIS, eyes narrow and jaw tense.
Mark my words, your majesty, your rule will
be challenged, and when the time comes,
you will not come out the victor.
(Turns around in a circle to address the court)
As for the rest of you, you placid imbeciles,
you who think you are safe, in your mansions
and palaces, one day there will be nothing to protect
you against our enemies. Your king will not
save you. Your guards will desert you, and you
will have no means of defence. I suggest you rethink
(Points towards DORATHIS)
This king who sits upon your throne, cannot
and will not protect you. He is nothing more
than a coward.
The hall is silent, her words echo in the chamber. For a beat, she scans the hall, before starting to walk out. She reaches the doors, and DORATHIS finally speaks up.
You say I do not care. You say I will
abandon my people.
(LIYA pauses at the door.
DORATHIS shakes his head)
Child, you have still much to learn.
LIYA doesn't turn around. Her hand is on one of the doors.
Then prove to me that the death
of my scouts were not in vain.
She leaves, as DORATHIS and the court watch. There is more whispers amongst the courtiers as the doors shut.
FADE TO BLACK.
So, what do you guys think? Pretty tense huh? Show me what you've got! I'm so excited to see the results! I may even make one up myself, if y'all don't beat me to it.
Anyway, I'll leave that here for now, and I'll see you guys next time!
