The Heart Of All Things

Updated: Apr 30

HELLO EVERYONE!

Today’s post is all about something that I’ve been a fan of, since…well since forever. I know that there is a large following too, even though we’re pretty quiet about it. It’s only because not all of us want to admit that original Disney characters are involved. It’s also because it’s part of the major Final Fantasy franchise, well as a sideline kind of thing at least.

If you already know what I’m talking about…shh!!! Don’t spoil it! For those of you who don’t, I’m talking about an ambitious game that crosses over between Disney and Final Fantasy franchises. I’m talking about…

KINGDOM HEARTS!

Some of you already know what I’m talking about, and for those of you who do…what are you doing here? (I’m joking! no I’m not…). For those of you who don’t. I’ll explain this as best I can, because, trust me, it’s a very complicated and convoluted story!

What Is It About?

Ok, in the most basic terms, Kingdom Hearts is about a boy who was chosen to wield a very powerful weapon called the Keyblade. It has the power to lock or unlock the “heart” of worlds, in order to keep their light protected from the threat of darkness. Now, this boy, Sora, was chosen, when his world was consumed by darkness, and because of that, he lost his friends, Kairi and Riku. So, while he is sent to lock the hearts of each world he visits, he is also trying to find them, to reunite with them.

Ok, so those of you who’ve played this game know that this explanation is the basic of the basics, and it doesn’t even cover the rest of the franchise, but hush! This post is for those who don’t know the games and who are interested but don’t want the long and complicated story, because it’ll scare them off!

You Say That Feather...But Why Should I Even Play?

I know I’ve just put some of you off, but trust me when I say this, the story may be complicated but the game itself negates the scariness of its plot. Essentially it’s a “spam the X button as much as you can” kind of game.

You don’t need to think about mechanics, or stats, unless you’re the kind of player who does like that, you can concentrate on that if you’d like. However, it’s not exactly essential. For those who just like to play through a story and spam the X button this game is perfect, all you need to remember to do is to add the abilities Sora and the gang earn as they level up.

Another reason I highly recommend this game is because it’s Disney! All the classic faces you know from their movies are there, Alice, from Alice In Wonderland, Aladdin, Genie and Jasmine from Aladdin, Jack Skellington and Sally from Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas and so many more!

Plus, if you’re a Final Fantasy fan, you’ll find familiar faces as well, like Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, Yuffie, Squall/Leon, and Cid! There are so many familiar characters you’ll find yourself wrapped in a warm embrace of nostalgia.

It Might Be Simple, But It's A Set-Up!

Ok, so as you can see the graphics are very simple, but bear in mind, the game came out in 2002, on the PS2, but…BUT! It is still a beautiful game. Now, I’m not a game maker, so I don’t know what formulas and algorithms they used to make up the graphics and the gameplay but I do know one thing, if a noob like me can play the game, you can bet that you guys can too.

Like I said, it’s a simple “spam the X button” kind of game, and you’ll easily find the patterns in each world (or level) of the game. Not to mention, there are even side games that you can play, if you’re getting bored of going after the main story, and if you’re dedicated enough, you’ll get a secret ending, if you complete the game along with those side “quests” (for a lack of a better word).

What Are You Waiting For?

Go and play it already! There are whole worlds for you to rediscover! For those of you who’ve played this game before, which world was your favorite? Mine is Neverland! I love the fact that you can fly endlessly in that world!

So, that’s it for today, I’ll probably come up with new theories, stories, and other stuff about the Kingdom Hearts universe, because there is definitely a lot to uncover there. In the meantime, let me know what you think of the game! Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? What was your favorite world? Is there anything you would change about it?

I’ll see you guys next time!

With love,
