4 Cosy Games I Like To Play On Vacation

We all get bored, on vacation and it’s during those quiet moments that you aren’t doing anything, or just winding down, after a long day that you don’t really want to think about or do anything. It's in these moments that I love playing my cosy games. You all know I love my cosy games, who doesn’t? For the most part, they are harmless, and they fill up the time you’re not doing anything. So, why not play a game or two? Not to mention, some of them don’t even require wi-fi. It’s perfect!

1.   Genshin Impact

I’m starting off with the ones that do require wi-fi, because, let’s be honest, you’re secretly glad every time you rock up to a place and they have wi-fi available. Now, I like to play Genshin Impact and some of my other games, when I’m winding down. While, yes, Genshin does have a few puzzle games, and sometimes requires your attention, on the whole, you can just breeze through your quests and missions, while you collect different ingredients, items and artifacts, for your weapons and character development.

I like to play Genshin once I’m back in my hotel room. Sometimes, if I’m on a poolside holiday, I will take my phone (because I play the game on my phone) to the pool and play while I get that very much needed tan. Of course, you all know by now that Genshin Impact is one of my absolute favourite games, and although I haven’t played it much recently, I still know exactly where I’m at, in the game, and can hop back in if I wanted to (I won’t otherwise I’ll be doing that all day and disregarding everything else). It’s so easy to understand, the mechanics aren’t difficult to learn, and there is a multitude of things you can do in the game. It’s not just the main story quest, you have many side quests, commissions, and even a world full of minigames available to you as well. You could literally spend a whole day exploring Teyvat, and I’m here for it.

2.   Disney Dreamlight Valley (Arcade)

For the past couple of years, I’ve been meaning to play Disney Dreamlight Valley. I bought it for my PC, but before I could properly play it, I went on vacation, back in June. Now, because I was playing another PC game, Palia (I talk about this one in another post, you can read it here), I wanted to continue playing those cosy kinds of games, and I needed my fix, while I was on vacation. So, I downloaded Disney Dreamlight Valley, onto my phone (and no, it’s not free, unless you have the Apple Arcade subscription, my phone contract came with the subscription, that’s why I have it), and I gave it a whirl, and oh my goodness, I was hooked.

While the mechanics of the game is the same as your regular role-playing game, where you build up your crafting skills, collect random items and clear away the evil stuff that’s threatening the magic and beauty of the world you’re in, the nostalgia of the old Disney characters really knocks this one out of the park. I was playing this game obsessively(!) while I was on vacation. It was my go-to game, whenever I had wi-fi, I was playing it while I was walking through malls, in my hotel room, in cafes and restaurants, when I had a quiet moment. I couldn’t put my phone down, because I was just hooked to the game. Of course, now that I’m no longer on vacation, and I’m always in work mode, I don’t really have time to progress, however, every now and then I do look at my phone, and my computer screen, just wishing I had the time to play. It was so much fun!

3.   I Love Hue

I Love Hue is one of those you can play offline, meaning you don’t need any internet or wi-fi to play. It’s a puzzle game, and it tests how well you can see colour, so I’m afraid, for my colour-blind friends this game won’t be for you (I’m sorry!). Essentially, the aim of the game is to put the colour blocks in order of the gradient. What I mean by that is, say for example the puzzle is a straight line, and on one end you have the colour red, and on the other, the colour blue. In the middle, the colours are all jumbled up, so you’re going to need to sort those colours out, to make a perfect gradient, from red to blue.

That’s it, that’s the game, and honestly, for me, it’s actually pretty satisfying, watching the gradients slot into place. Now, whenever I don’t have internet, like when I’m on the road, I break this game out and keep my mind sharp, playing this game. It also makes me grateful that I can see so many colours and identify where in the colour spectrum they should go. I highly recommend playing this game, so long as you aren’t colour blind, because it really tests your skill at identifying colour.

4.   Sudoku

Honestly, It’s an oldie but goodie, and again, you don’t need wi-fi or internet to play. There are many versions of the Sudoku game available everywhere, and I mean everywhere. It doesn’t have to be on your phone, there are many sudoku books and magazines available in bookstores, supermarkets, stationery stores and, yes, even in the airport. I always go back to playing Sudoku, when I don’t have anything else I want to play. Not only does it keep my mind sharp, since I’m figuring out the puzzle, but it keeps me occupied for a good several minutes.

Of course, I play on my phone, where you can get different types of sudoku puzzle that can go from easy to hard, the more you play. I’m currently on some of the harder puzzles, because I’ve been playing sudoku for a good portion of my adult life. So, if you want to keep your mind sharp, then bust out a sudoku puzzle, I guarantee you, it’ll take a few minutes off your downtime.

So, there are obviously many more games you could play, while you’re on vacation, but as I said, these are my current go-to games. Of course, later down the line, there may be others that I discover and would like to add to this list, but that’ll be a post for another time. For now, have fun playing these 4 cosy games.
