4 Countries I Want Visit Again

Hello Everyone!

I have been around the world many times. I’ve been to several countries, but every time I leave, I feel like I haven’t seen enough. There are still so many places I want to visit, so many things I want to see, and so many aspects of the culture I have yet to experience. So, I always make a mental note, as I travel back to my home in the UK, to save up so I can visit those countries again. Where are these countries you ask? Good question. Here are 4 of them.

1.   Italy

I love Italy, it’s one of my favourite places to visit. In fact, I’ve been multiple times, to different areas. I’ve been to Rome (twice), Venice, Florence and even Naples, but each trip has been very short, or they were made when I was very young, so I don’t remember what I experienced. Needless to say, I would like to visit Italy again. If anything, I’d like to have an extended vacation there, because the culture and land is so rich and steeped in their history and stories, I’d love to immerse myself in the spaces that really capture my imagination, and I don’t mean just visiting the areas designated for tourists.

Venice

I’d also love to see areas that the locals suggest or even roam about their natural wilds. I’d love to find those hidden gems that make Italians proud of their culture and experience it for myself. If you don’t know, I have always been interested in the ancient world. Everything from their politics to their mythology and religions; all of it has fascinated me, ever since I learned about them, briefly, at school, and Italy was one of the countries I was invested in. Granted, most of their culture stems from their cousins in Greece, but even still, there are nods of their older civilisations buried amongst the terracotta and clay.

2.   Mexico

I’ve only ever been to Mexico once, and that was a family summer holiday to Cancun. Granted, most of our time was spent in the hotel, relaxing, having fun, and swimming at the beach, but we did take one tour trip to the nearest Aztec ruin, Chichén Itzá. It was stifling, but I didn’t care. I was standing amongst one of the world’s oldest pyramids and stepping into a space reserved for one of the oldest civilisations in the world. I wanted to know more. I even wanted to explore the different areas of the site, including the jungle surrounding us. It would have been a magical experience.

Unfortunately, it was too hot, for both my mom and my sister, and they didn’t appreciate the site as much as I did. So, we didn’t stay for very long. That’s why I want to go back. This time, not during the heat of summer, but during the cooler months, when it’s more bearable, and maybe, I could visit other, similar sites, to see the similarities and differences, and learn more about what made these ancient civilisations worked, and why they disappeared.

3.   Japan

The last time (or should I say, the only time) I went to Japan was when I was a teenager, moody and uninterested in a lot of things. When my family went, it was also the height of summer, and it wasn’t much of an enjoyable experience, although I did get to experience the culture I was obsessed with, because of my anime addiction (literally, the only things I would watch, while I was at school, were anime shows). I had anticipated falling even more in love with the cities we visited (we visited both Kyoto and Tokyo), but sadly, my teenage mood swings and the heat were not a good combination.

Japan

That’s why I would like to go back. I would like to visit these cities to properly without the mood swings, and with a more enthusiastic mind. Of course, now, instead of going for the anime and kitsch shops, I’d be there more for the food. I love the Japanese cuisine, it’s so interesting, especially because they have ingredients that we don’t have, in the UK. Not only that, but the cultural sites are so fascinating and interesting to look at, because (and this appeals to my interior design and architectural heart) they are symmetrical and clean. It’s literally a whole different world, for me.

4.   Belgium

If you’ve read my previous blog post, about the countries I’d recommend for a winter vacation, then you’ll know that I absolutely love Belgium. It’s one of my favourite countries to visit. Not only because it’s known for its Belgian chocolates, and its flower shows, but the architecture of the country is so beautiful, it feels like I’m stepping into the past. This is why I want to revisit the country, if not for the chocolates, then for the architecture.

Belgium

The winding streets and alleyways of both Brussels and Bruges have always captivated my imagination, because they also line small canals and rivers that run through the cities. Even Ghent, although small, has a charm that I would love to recapture. It feels magical and mysterious, the way the alleyways and streets wind around weird spaces and then come back out onto the main street. It makes me want to wander around and just get lost, so I can find all those hidden gems and spaces.
