8 TV Shows I Like To Watch On A Slow Day

Hello Everyone!
Today I’m back here, partially to populate this section of the website, and because I have another listicle for you. This time, I’m talking about TV, yes including Netflix, Disney+ & Prime Video. When I’m not feeling up to playing any games, or I’m just not in the mood to do anything that requires too much brain power, I pick up the crochet pattern I’m working on and put on some good ol’ television.

Of course, I have all the subscriptions, YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Discovery Plus, you name it, but there is so much on offer, it’s sometimes difficult to choose what I want to watch. Like I said, sometimes, I don’t want to use too much brain power. So, I do the thing we all do. I rewatch things I’ve seen before, and let me tell you, there are a few good TV shows that I always go back to, again, and again, and again, because I love them. They’re amazing, and I’m sure you have your own set of shows you’d like to go back to over and over again, if not for the nostalgia of it, then for the hidden details you didn’t see before.
However, having said that, there may be TV shows I list here that you’ve never seen before, and it could inspire you to watch them, change things up for yourself, and maybe you’ll enjoy them as well, you’ll put them on repeat, just like I do. So, without further ado, here are 8 TV shows I like to watch on a slow day.
1. Friends
Obviously, I’m going to include this TV show in the list. I grew up on Friends, I have watched all the seasons, back-to-back, several times, and although I know those lines off by heart, you can never go wrong with having the sit-com in the background, especially on slow days. Heavy TV programmes, like dramas or thrillers tend to need my full attention, and when I’m feeling particularly lazy, I just want the white noise of conversation. So, I'll turn Friends on, both for the nostalgia of it, and because I don’t need to concentrate too hard on what’s on the screen.
Now, I know there will be many of you who’ll argue about the other big ones, but like I said, I grew up on Friends, it has been and always will be a staple in my house. I know there are many other good ones out there, like How I Met Your Mother, or Will And Grace, but nothing hits home, for me, like Friends does. The jokes always land, and while the series might not have aged as well as many would like, it is still a good watch, if only to showcase what humour was like, back in the 90s and the early 2000s.
2. Supernatural
Ok, I know I said heavy shows like thrillers and dramas aren’t easy to watch on lazy days, but I have to include this show. It’s one of my absolute favourites, just like Friends. Supernatural will always have a special place in my heart, not just because the boys are hot, but because the family dynamic is one I associate with, a lot, especially on Dean’s side. I’m an elder sister too, so I know what heartaches the man goes through, even though I am not as deeply involved in my sister’s life like he is with Sam.
I know there are many episodes in the series that do require my attention, but they are only a few out of 300+ episodes, and they’re mostly the final episodes of the series. Although, I will say, I will always watch the last 5 episodes of season 15 dedicatedly. I will remain glued to the TV screen, because those episodes really are hard to watch. There’s just so much emotion there, and yes, I ugly cry, every time I watch the finale. It guts me every time, especially when Kansas starts playing.
3. Mr Queen
This one’s another one I’ll need to keep my eye on the screen for. It’s a K-Drama, so I need to read the subtitles. However, like with the previous 2 on the list, I’ve seen Mr Queen many times. I actually put it on every Christmas, because that was when I discovered it. The show aired around that time, back in 2020, and I was watching it diligently, every week (I had Rakuten Viki at the time – I don’t anymore, because of financial reasons, and I currently don’t have much time to sit around and watch TV).
The show, while obviously a drama, has so much comedy to it that it can’t really be classified as a drama. It’s a hybrid really, especially when you know the female lead has to pretend to be a man trapped in a woman’s body (literally, his soul is in her body, she’s not confused). Shin Hye-Sun does really well to make her portrayal of a man believable (it also helps when Choi Jin-Hyuk voices her thoughts). Although there will be times when you doubt the portrayal, but you never really forget that Jang Bong-Hwan is still trapped in Kim So-Young’s body.
4. Brooklyn 99
I love Brooklyn 99, like Friends, it’s a good one to just put on your TV and let it wash over you. There are loads of funny moments that get me every time (BONE!) and the little quirks that everyone has just really meshes well. I love Jake’s fast “cool, cool, cool, cool, cool” moments, I love every time Boyle comes up with some hairbrained scheme to win Rosa’s attentions, and the way the entire cast calls out “Nine-Nine!”. Try saying it without the inflections, I dare you.
Of course, you do have your serious moments as well, because it is a cop show, like in season 5, when Rosa is on an active shooter case. That one was really tense, but these kinds of episodes are few and far between, and it’s mostly about the antics that go on in the office, where they all work. I love the goofy banter that goes one between them all, and I love watching the relationships progress (yes, I do like the Jake and Amy ship, I think it works!). It’s wholesome, in a weird way.
5. Stranger Things
Ok, I jumped onto the band wagon, when my sister and my dad started watching it. I had to see what all the hype was about, and the first couple of seasons really did hook me and reel me in. It sunk its claws into my brain, just like Vecna did with Max, but my goodness, the plot was just amazing. Of course, like with everyone else who watched the series, I do have my reservations about the ending, but I still liked it. Did it become a little more unrealistic as time went on? Yes. Did I believe that a bunch of kids could take down a mind flayer on their own, with nothing but flame torches and guns? No. Did I still enjoy watching it, even to the very end? Yes, yes, I did.
Regardless of what I think of the ending, I’d still watch it all over again, if not for the awe at watching those kids act (especially Dustin, you’ve got to hand it to the man, he really portrayed an arrogant, geeky know-it-all, with an attitude perfectly), then for the plot that actually made sense at the time. While things digressed into the world of fantasy towards the end of the show, it still kept me coming back for more, and having recently watched the play with my sister, I’m planning to watch it all over again…once I have the time.
6. The Legend Of Vox Machina
If you know me, then you know I’m a Critter. If you don’t know what that is, I am a big fan of Critical Role. I was introduced to the show by my cousin and her husband, a couple of years ago, when they began playing D&D. They had first suggested I watch The Legend of Vox Machina, before they introduced me to the actual D&D campaign the Critical Role team actually played, and because of that show, I was hooked. I even ended up binge watching the entire campaign, and then some. Needless to say, I’m all caught up on the Critical Role campaigns, but I would not have known anything about them, if not for The Legend of Vox Machina.
The show itself is very well made. While the animation style is simple, it really emphasises the story without taking away too much detail, and having watched the campaign, I cry, laugh and shout at my screen, when a particularly significant moment managed to make it through to the animated series. Now, I know the show can only handle so much story, and there are details that have been changed in the series (like when Vox Machina faced Anna Ripley in her warehouse, they actually fought her in a cave, on an island made of glass), but it goes without saying, it still remains as true to the campaign as possible, because the cast themselves are involved in the telling of the story, and I love it. I cannot wait to see what they do when the great fight that ends the campaign happens. I know I’m going to ugly cry at that as well.
7. The Mighty Nein
Obviously, I can’t talk about The Legend of Vox Machina, without talking about The Mighty Nein. Whenever I hear Nott talk about Caleb, I tear up every single time. I love that motherly protection that emanates from those lines, it really shows just how emotionally invested the cast can be, when playing these campaigns, and The Mighty Nein has so many of them. Of course, I’m mostly talking about the campaign, but the animated series also shows those emotions, in a different way, like when it reveals Caleb’s backstory, and what he had to endure, when he was training to be a Volstrucker, or what anxieties Fjord had, whenever he had to be a leader, knowing he’d never really be able to fill those boots.
The Mighty Nein really shows just how much more developed the cast has become, telling such a vivid and engaging story. It’s no longer just Matt Mercer immersing us in his world of Exandria, but the cast themselves are telling their own stories too, from Beau’s frustrations at the Cobalt Soul to Jester’s innocent but sometimes risky pranks, the cast is not only acting as their characters, you can tell that a little piece of each person is in those characters, and they live those stories, regardless whether it’s at a table with some dice, or voice acting the same lines they say at those tables, for us to watch on a screen. I honestly cannot wait to see how the show differs from the campaign, and how true it stays to the heart of it.
8. The Big Bang Theory
Alright, everyone, let’s end this on a light note. I started with a background show, I’m ending with one as well. While I was introduced to Friends at a young age, I was introduced to The Big Bang Theory much later. In fact, I only watched the whole show a few years ago. I never really got into it, until then, and honestly, I wish I’d watched it sooner. The fact that it’s about scientists who develop good, healthy relationships between each other and their girlfriends-turned-wives is something that really appeals to me. As a geek myself, there’s always that niggling doubt at the back of my mind asking me if I’m ever good enough for something like that, and the answer should always be yes.
The show really gives me a boost of self-esteem, especially when I’m feeling low, and like Friends, their jokes land well (most of the time). Of course, there are a few times when they fall flat, but normally, this is always picked up immediately by the rest of the cast and rescued pretty quickly. I do love all the references to actual science and other sci-fi and fantasy culture references (like D&D and the Marvel Universe), and it’s always fun to watch the different quirks that come out in every single one of the gang whenever situations get a little awkward, like when Sheldon dressed up like the doppler effect and everyone thought he was a zebra. The show, for me at least, is not only funny, but relatable in more ways than one.
Well, There You Have It, The 8 TV Shows I Like To Watch On A Slow Day
Normally, I have time at the end of the day, to watch these shows, but lately, because I’m making Sims builds nonstop, and working on a couple of other projects, I don’t really have time lately. However, I’m hoping that all of this will slow down soon, so I can catch up on my rewatches. I would love to watch Sam & Dean fight a demon again, or I’d love to see Phoebe perform Smelly Cat again, but for now, I’m going to head off and finish this next Sims build for you. As for you guys, let me know what shows you like to watch on a slow day, maybe I haven’t heard of any of them, or they could be my next watch. You never know.
Anyway, like I said, I’m off to build more houses, in the Sims. In the meantime, please don’t forget to like, subscribe, comment, share and follow me, here on Feather’s Charm, on my YouTube channel, on my social media channels, and on Patreon. Your support really helps me make more content like this, for you guys.
And as always, be kind, be creative, and be unique.
I’ll see you later!
