Hello Everyone!
Today, we’re going to a different section, of the blog, one that I haven’t touched in years! This one, is all about arts and crafts. I don’t just mean yarn crafts (although some of them will be), I mean other arts and crafts, like papercrafts, drawing, painting, and anything else that’s considered a craft. Now, why am I making this post? Well, I may be a hobby hoarder, but maybe my experiences may inspire you to take up some of the hobbies I list here.

Of course, that’s entirely up to you. Hobbies are usually something that you take up in your spare time, not a routine that you have to take up to be interesting. However, if you’re like me, you like to make things (even in video games), then why not take up some of these hobbies, and maybe, sell your creations to your family and friends. So, here are the 5 hobbies I’m practicing now.
1. Jewellery Making
I don’t just mean stringing beads onto wire and calling it a bracelet. I mean using macrame twine, twisting metal wires to make swirling patterns and using actual cabochon gemstones to make interesting patterns and pieces. Now, I’m not a pro yet, I still need to work on my wire work, and the macrame part, but I have made a few keychains, earrings and trinkets that I could potentially sell, if people are interested, but right now, they are practice pieces.

I would suggest jewellery making for people who would like to create quick and simple things, to get started. Just know that it requires nimble fingers, so if you’re not very dexterous with your hands, then maybe this isn’t for you. It also requires good hand-eye coordination, but if you keep practicing you may start developing those skills.
2. Friendship Bracelets/Knot Art
So, I have been practicing this hobby ever since I was a teenager. I have always loved making patterns with yarn, that’s why I crochet and knit (don’t worry, they won’t be on this list). Making friendship bracelets doesn’t always mean making friendship bracelets. If you use thicker yarn and different materials, you can make something else, like bookmarks, or small tapestries to hang on your wall.

Friendship bracelets don’t need as much dexterity, since you’re making knots with thread, because as I said, you can also use thicker yarn or different materials, to make these pieces of art. Granted, it may take a while to complete a project, because you’re creating it one knot at a time, but once it’s done, you’ll feel like you accomplished something, because it took that long. I know that when I created the Yellow Feather bookmark, it felt like an accomplishment, because it took me a year to make. So, give it a whirl. I guarantee you, it is therapeutic, and you’ll have something durable at the end of it.
3. Watercolour
Of course, I have to include this in the list. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I also practice watercolour painting. Now, mind you, I don’t have the creativity to create actual paintings, and like with most of my hobbies, I’m still a beginner at it, but I am trying to get better, whether it’s by creating simple pictures, or practicing small scenes, it’s a good way to change up your everyday routine. You don’t need a whole case of different paints, in fact, all you really need are the primary colours, you can easily make so many different colours by combining them and adding black and white to make them lighter or darker.

Watercolour doesn’t just have to be paint, you can use pencils, pens and other ink types to create watercolour style art. You can even combine the art with other mediums, like doodle art. It’s not a strictly separate medium. After all, art is all about experimentation and creativity. It’s about combining unexpected mediums and going with the flow. That’s why watercolour is my favourite art medium.
4. Scrapbooking
Why am I not including this in my Journal With Me section? Well, while scrapbooking is another form of journalling, it’s also almost an artform in and of itself, because it’s a way to make your displayed memorabilia more interesting. The use of stickers, washi tape, scrap paper, even card toppers can make a scrapbook a piece of art, and like with watercolour painting, you can change whatever medium you use. You can even use fabric, lace and other unusual materials.

A scrapbook is essentially a book of scrap materials, it’s literally making art out of scraps, and not only is it a good way to make things look interesting; it’s saving yourself a lot of waste. So, if you’re practicing papercrafts, and you have loads of different paper scraps or even fabric scraps lying around, hang on to them. You may just be able to use them in your scrapbook.
5. Cross Stitch/Embroidery
As you all know, I love my needlecrafts. If it’s not crochet or knitting, it’s sewing or quilting, or even cross stitch and embroidery. For me, I’ve practiced cross stitching for almost as long as crocheting. Again, my mom introduced the craft to me, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love watching the pictures slowly come alive in my hands, the more I progress, and when it’s done, I have a beautiful wall hanging, or if I’m feeling adventurous, a piece of embroidery that I can sew to a cushion cover or a blanket.

Cross stitch is, once again, a hand-eye coordination thing, and does require nimble fingers, because you’re poking a tiny needle into small holes and bringing thread through, but I promise you, once you start a project, you won’t want to stop. Of course, on the flip side, it’ll make you question whether you can count or not (just like with crochet), especially if you’re practicing counted cross stitch, and not relying on the pre-printed charts. However, once it’s done, you’ll be so proud of yourself, because you were so patient with it and you have something to show for it.
Well, There Are The 5 Hobbies I’m Practicing Now!
Hopefully, I’ve inspired you to take up some of these hobbies. They are dexterous hobbies, so you’ll need to be good with your fingers, but I promise you, it’ll be worthwhile. Not only will it fill you with a sense of achievement, you’ll have something to show for it, and who knows, maybe you can sell your final products as well. It all depends on you. These hobbies are creative ones that develop your patience, problem solving skills, creativity and dexterity. So, why not have a go and see what hobbies you are drawn to.
Or, if you already have hobbies of your own, let me know what they are, and inspire me to give them a whirl. I’m always on the hunt for new hobbies to try.
Well, that’s it from me today, I’m going to go back to my cross-stitch project, since my mom’s been hounding me to finish it.
